Virginia Brown crafts stories that inspire and inform.
I’m a trained journalist, copy writer, one-time staff editor, and communications professional with a passion for sharing thoughtful, creative stories.
My work appears in Our State magazine, The Charlotte Observer, AAA GoMagazine, USA Today, BBC News Magazine, Charlotte magazine, among others, including the literary collection 27 Views of Charlotte.
I hold a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School and a bachelor’s in communications from UNC-Chapel Hill.
A creative storyteller, my diverse work experience includes journalism, editing, corporate content, public relations strategy, and more.
After earning my master’s degree at
the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, I produced digital
news features for the BBC News Magazine in London.
Today I’m based in Columbus, Ohio, where I run my independent writing business.
In my latest role, as Vice President of Communications and Content for the Charlotte Symphony in North Carolina, I oversaw media relations, print and digital publications, marketing content creation, social media strategy, and overall branding and positioning.
Prior to the Symphony, I was a staff editor at Charlotte magazine, where I managed all travel content and wrote everything from photo captions to long-form cover features. I’ve written front-of-book stories, Q&As, profiles, and I often conceptualized and led the magazine’s service packages, including the popular 50 Things Every Charlottean Should Do. I also edited the local line of visitor publications under the global Where travel brand, to which I still contribute.
My content has appeared on the sites of major brands from Slack to Choice Hotels International, Duke Energy, and Novant Health.
