I’ve written everything from magazine stories for global outlets like the BBC and Where Traveler to features and service pieces for publications like Charlotte magazine and Charlotte Five–from photo captions to longform magazine cover features and all the things in between.
In 2015, Eno Publishers selected my Charlotte magazine feature story, “Rooted: Trees are the Soul of Our City” for the collection 27 Views of Charlotte: The Queen City in Prose and Poetry. And I’m particularly proud of the personal essay I shared about being a product of school system efforts to use busing to better integrate schools.
My content marketing writing has included promotional and brand materials for the Charlotte Symphony and Choice Hotels, plus real estate and home improvement coverage for Trulia.com.
I’m a generalist at heart. But I most love sharing stories about interesting people and places. On assignment, I’ve interviewed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson for the BBC, cut up with the NBA’s Gerald Henderson for Charlotte magazine, and my travel pieces have taken me from a private island in The Grenadines with the most amazing night sky to a remote eco-farm in the jungles of Belize.

Virginia is a clever, highly imaginative storyteller and gifted editor who is a pleasure to collaborate with …Jane Fields, Art Director, Charlotte magazine
As an editor for Where magazine and associate editor for Charlotte magazine, I conceptualized creative travel and feature packages, including a deep dive into Charlotte’s roads and what they mean to the city today. I also created, contributed to and assigned writers to the feature 50 Things Every Charlottean Should Do, which was the most popular magazine website story to date at the time. I have a sharp eye for consistency and have performed copy-editing and fact-checking services for alumni publications, children’s and sales books.
Content Marketing & Brand Strategy
I develop creative content that elevates brands and connects them with their communities.
For five years, I led media relations and communications for Charlotte’s largest performing arts nonprofit, the Charlotte Symphony. I saw the organization through a major mission overhaul, and, through strategic and authentic community partnerships, brand identity development.
Under my strategic communications leadership, the organization’s social media reach nearly quadrupled and my creative brand projects gained national attention in outlets from NPR to Fox Sports and TMZ.
I also have experience overhauling and developing creative content for websites, marketing email campaigns, print marketing materials, brag sheets, and social media.
